The Zingaro Nature Reserve, the first to be established in Sicily, is a corner of unspoilt nature, which we recommend seeing either on foot, along the path, or by boat.
From the sea, it is possible to appreciate the landscape, but also to discover the underwater world rich in colourful fish and dazzling blue sea spots.
The excursion to the Zingaro Nature Reserve usually includes one or more bathing stops, and along the way it is possible to listen to tales of the area, of how the San Vito maritime industry has changed, or of the value of the tuna nets that can be discovered as soon as one leaves the bay of San Vito Lo Capo or once one arrives at the Scopello stacks; all the tours end at the stacks, right in front of the ancient tuna fishery of Scopello.
The tuna fishery of San Vito Lo Capo, or Tonnara del Secco, is today reduced almost to ruins, but it is fascinating to admire the structure on the sea and discover how, once upon a time, this was an industrious place of great economic value; the Tonnara del Secco is often the set of internationally produced films and TV series.
The tuna fishery in Scopello, on the other hand, is today well preserved, a place of great architectural value, now used as a luxury tourist facility where weddings of couples from all over the world are even celebrated.
During the boat tour, a dip in front of the Scopello Faraglioni is a must; the beautiful blue waters and the surrounding landscape will remain in the memories of the holiday.
